Who Was the Biter of '87?

It was Toy Bonnie! (Or maybe Toy Freddy)

The Bite of '87 is one of the oldest mysteries in FNAF. Everyone seems to have their own idea about who did it, and I am no different. So I'm going to present my own solution and how I got there using the process of elimination.

I started by ruling out any animatronics that obviously weren't responsible for the Bite. The Puppet doesn't have teeth and can't bite anyone, and Balloon Boy doesn't attack the night guard in FNAF 2, making it unlikely to bite anyone during the day. So I ruled them out right away.

I also ruled out the Withereds (yes, even Foxy) and Mangle pretty quickly. This is based on Phone Guy's line about the Bite of '87 in FNAF 1:

"Uh, they used to be allowed to walk around during the day too. But then there was the Bite of '87."

To me, this implies that the animatronic in question was one of the ones that could actually roam around during the day, instead of being locked up in the back room. It's highly unlikely that the Withereds were out during the day at all, seeing as they had been decomissioned and used for parts, and they definitely weren't supposed to be there. Finally, we can rule out Mangle because it also doesn't walk around the restaurant (at least, not in its mangled state).

This leaves us with Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, and Toy Chica. A lot of people would jump to Toy Chica here based on her line in Ultimate Custom Night:

"Where's my beak? Lodged in your forehead, of course."

But the more you think about it, the less it works. For Toy Chica to bite someone, she would have to remove her beak first, so her teeth could reach the victim's frontal lobe. Obviously that doesn't leave her beak lodged in anyone's forehead, and it seems unlikely that she would remove her beak during the day with children in the restaurant (although, it isn't really clear why she removes her beak at night either, at least from a lore perspective). And if she attacked with her beak instead of her teeth, then it would be the Peck of '87, not the Bite.

So I eliminated Toy Chica on the grounds that she isn't very likely to bite someone as her first method of attack (although the evidence against her isn't as strong as it is for the Withereds and Mangle), leaving Toy Freddy and Toy Bonnie. There isn't really any reason why it couldn't be either of them, and there isn't a lot I can come up with to indicate it's one over the other. Still, I'm leaning towards Toy Bonnie over Freddy because it seems more likely to bite someone given its rabbit teeth, and it's possible that Shadow Bonnie (which is a reskin of Toy Bonnie in FNAF 2) was meant to be symbolic of the Bite of '87, in a ghost/agony sort of way. However, none of this is solid evidence and I think that Shadow Bonnie is more likely related to Springtrap or Spring Bonnie, since its FNAF World model has the same full top row of teeth as Springtrap while Toy Bonnie has buck teeth, so it could just as easily be Toy Freddy.

There really isn't an obvious culprit for the Bite of '87, and it's a lot easier to find evidence for who didn't do it than for who actually did. The Bite of '87 didn't end up being an important part of the FNAF lore in later games, but it's one of the original mysteries from the game and it's still fun to think about. And really, it *could* have been any of the FNAF 2 animatronics even if it doesn't seem to make as much sense - maybe Foxy wandered into the party area one day just to take a bite out of the day guard. But, I personally think it was Toy Bonnie because I don't know of any reason for it not to be him, and it just seems to make more sense than Toy Freddy.
